Alternative 3: Rehabilitate the existing bridge to handle traffic in one direction, and build a new two-lane bridge to handle traffic in the opposite direction.

The new bridge would be designed so as not to detract from the visual effect of the existing bridge. Traffic would be maintained during the project. The cost of rehabilitating the existing bridge and building a second bridge would be about $45 million.

Maintenance costs for the new and existing bridge would be about $9 million over the next 50 years. Right of way and roadway construction costs would be about $3 million, bringing the total cost to about $57 million.
